YardSums answers one question for home and garden projects: how much do I need to buy?

Enter the size of your slab, bed, room, roof or fence and you get a shopping list in the units stores actually sell: 80 lb bags, cubic yards, tons, gallons, bundles, posts. You also see what it costs, using the price you type in from your store's shelf or a typical national range with the date we checked it.

What makes it different

• Bags or bulk, decided. For materials sold both ways, we show the size where delivery becomes cheaper than bags.
• Your price, not ours. Typical prices are only a starting point. Type your store's price and every total updates. Prices you type stay on your device.
• The math, shown. Every calculator explains its formula, its assumptions and a worked example, so you can check the answer by hand.
